US markets make gains

Strong jobs data in the US helped drive markets up on Friday. The Standard and Poor's 500 rose just under 1% to end at a record 1,557.6 points, while the Nasdaq gained 1.7% to finish on 2,780.3 points and the Dow Jones lifted by 0.7% to close on 14,066 points. In London, the FTSE 100 reached 6,595.8 points, an advance of 0.7%.
