This came in line with Government of Dubai vision and directions towards adopting and implementing the sustainable development and green building concept announced through the Executive Office Council on September 17, 2007.

The initiative will help promote a thriving environment through the use of sustainable practices and products in the design and construction of buildings, renovation as well as in the ongoing operation of buildings within the Dubai Silicon Oasis jurisdiction. Amendments to the Rules and Regulations of the Oasis will be carried out to drive the change in market trends which will include some incentives to be announced later for developers applying GREEN concepts.

Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Director of planning and construction at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority said, 'The Silicon Oasis Authority is currently in the process of preparing a Green Building policy that governs all the activities within the oasis, thus supporting the city with a responsible, healthy and prosperous environment. Our enthusiasm to adopt sustainable and green developments reflects our commitment towards making DSOA one of the leading technology parks globally.'

What is worth mentioning is that DSOA is expected to adopt the globally recognised rating system, 'LEED' (Leadership in energy & environmental design) - the U.S. GREEN Building council rating system.

Eng. Al Katheeri added that DSOA has tendered its first Green Building for design back in August which will be one of the three first buildings coming up in the Oasis adopting the green building concept, which will include High tech solutions for energy saving such as Solar Panels and the use of recyclable material.
