Sahara Ramadan charity auction begins

Sahara Centre, the leading family shopping and entertainment destination in the UAE, one of Sharjah's prominent landmarks and one of the first mall to organise an auction for charity during the holy month of Ramadan, held the first Ramadan Charity auction on 27th September 2007.
A wide range of products like Chevrolet Aveo and Optra Cars, 19th Century Holy Qur'an Manuscripts, LG LCD TV plus Home Theatre, LG Notebook PC, Sony Playstation, Mobile Theatre Pro and intricately designed artifacts and handicrafts were laid in style to get under the gavel. The bidding price for the artifacts and handicrafts started at zero while the prices for the other items were quoted at half the total price.
Commenting on the auction, Jean Pierre Nammour, Managing Director, Sahara Centre says "With the onset of the holy month of Ramadan comes the spirit of giving and with that noble cause in mind we have successfully inaugurated our first Ramadan Charity Auction. The auction showed tremendous response and we had enthusiastic participants bidding for a good cause".
"Initiating a unique concept like this during the auspicious month of Ramadan clearly differentiates us as a mall with a vision and helps us get closer to the community we serve," added Jean-Pierre.
Essam Mahmoud Shabouk, a Syrian national was the highest bidder for the Chevrolet Optra 1.6L LS Hatchback. The bidding for the car started at the price of Dhs 21,000 and was closed at Dhs 35,200.
"I am really glad that I was nominated the highest bidder for the car as in return I am making a contribution to help the society and I am grateful to Sahara Centre to introduce a concept involving the society for the society", said Mahmoud Shabouk.
The LG LCD TV plus Home Theatre was sold at Dhs 5,200, , LG notebook PC sold at Dhs 2,900, Sony Playstation sold at Dhs 1,800, Merlin Mobile Theatre Pro at Dhs. 1,100 and the handicrafts and artifacts were also sold at competitive prices.
"Designed with the theme of charity, we have ensured that the participants enjoy the bidding and are encouraged to participate in larger numbers in the forthcoming weeks. The money spent by the participants will be the money that we will give to Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services", said Rima Chammas, Marketing Manager, Sahara Centre.
"In order to make the auction more interesting we have categorized the products on a weekly basis, so that we maintain the surprise and anxiety element within the participants," added Rima.
Sahara Centre looks to welcome participants for it's next Ramadan Charity Auction on Oct 4th 2007.
