The 'Dubai Cares' campaign, launched during the holy month of Ramadan, has received Dhs7m from the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG).

The group, which features popular retail and lifestyle brands such as United Colors of Benetton, IDdesign and Better Life and manufacturing trading companies such as Scientechnic, Al Gurg Leigh's Paints, and Mac al Gurg, among others, has pledged their full support for the unique initiative to lessen poverty in the poor and developing countries by providing proper education.

Operating for close to 50 years in the UAE, the group has come out in full support of the campaign after making a significant contribution in the retail, manufacturing and trading sectors.

Raja al Gurg, Managing Director of ESAG said, "The campaign is launched at the right time during the spirit of giving and we feel privileged to be part of it."

At the launch of Dubai Cares, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai described how the campaign will help over one million children and assist countries in achieving their U.N. Millennium Development Goals for providing Children's Primary Education to every child by 2015.

"Education is the key to keeping most people aware about their rights in a society and to make informed choices," said Raja. "Through this initiative, we hope millions of children throughout the world will benefit from this programme and will be able to experience a normal childhood through education."
