Influential educator honoured with global editorial appointment
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, October 09 - 2007 at 10:27
- PRESS RELEASE
The British University in Dubai is celebrating the appointment of Dr. Clifton Chadwick, one its most experienced tutors, as a Contributing Editor of the international journal Educational Technology.
In the United Arab Emirates, the combination of dynamic technological expansion and training a skilled workforce suited to the needs of an emerging knowledge economy puts Dr. Chadwick at the cutting edge of innovative curriculum management.
In addition to peer-reviewing submissions from researchers in the area, the Dubai-based Senior Lecturer in Management will be a regular columnist four times each year.
Drawing upon his observations and experiences of working in the United Arab Emirates, a key task of each column will be assessing the factors that both facilitate and impede innovation in the region. It is expected that these opinion pieces will become required reading for those working in the profession of educational curriculum management, especially seeking to combine teaching with new technology.
"Dr. Chadwick's elevation to the editorial position is a reflection of his substantial contribution to his academic discipline, spanning more than three decades. His enthusiasm for the subject remains undiminished, as reflected in his forthcoming tour of UAE educational establishments," said Dr. Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, The British University in Dubai.
In the weeks ahead Dr. Chadwick will be addressing primary teachers at the Emirates International School in the Meadows, Dubai, to promote the theme of "teaching thinking". An itinerary of schools and colleges will follow in the weeks ahead.
"I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to edit the publication that has been ever-present throughout my career," said Chadwick. "Full marks to The British University in Dubai for creating a supportive research environment and a genuine place to think about the issues of the day," he added.
Dr. Chadwick's appointment bolsters a number of recent triumphs by BUiD's Faculty of Education. These include the creation of a technology-themed route through the Master of Education degree and the publication of a cornerstone textbook on the teaching of second languages.
