Featuring the International European Touring Cast, the opera brings together prestigious orchestra, choir and ballet companies from around the world, as well as well-known soloists such as Russian mezzosoprano Galia Ibragimova as Carmen, baritone Niko Isakov and Austrian tenor Emil Ivanov.

Carmen speaks of the tragic love story of Carmen, Don Jose and Escamillo, and how a beautiful woman is adored and scorned by the men she loves. It first premiered at the Opera Comique in Paris in March 1875, and has since been staged in various theatre productions all over the world, enthralling millions of audiences with its passionate arias and dances.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the forthcoming staging of Carmen follows a string of successful cultural and entertainment programs hosted by Emirates Palace, including Aida Monumental Opera on Fire; and the Broadway hit musical, Chicago.

'Carmen may well be the most significant cultural performance we have hosted thus far, and is part of our ongoing initiative to bring truly captivating theatrical and musical productions to Abu Dhabi,' said Noel Massoud, General Manager of Emirates Palace, 'Through the generous support of local sponsors we are delighted to present this superb example of world class opera, and anticipate immense interest from the local community.'

Abu Dhabi's plans to become the region's cultural capital are well-publicised, in response to a growing interest from residents and tourists from within and around the region for world-class cultural events and performances. Emirates Palace has lead the way by hosting some of the aforementioned shows, as well as exhibits and festivals such as the Kremlin exhibition, which showcased cultural and artistic masterpieces from Russia; and the forthcoming Abu Dhabi Film Festival and ArtParis show.
