Business Travel Show Dubai goes green

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, October 10 - 2007 at 09:57
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Business Travel Show, Dubai has acknowledged the need to act now regarding climate change and has formed a partnership to offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with the show by using regulated carbon credits supplied by London based Carbon Capital Markets.

The offsets are Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) and come from a portfolio of methane recovery, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. These projects reduce CO2 emissions in developing countries and in turn balance the emissions generated by holding this event. CERs are created from United Nations regulated projects that both reduce emissions and have local community benefits.

"The business travel sector has a two-fold responsibility in its response to minimising climate change, namely reducing business related carbon emissions as well as those created by customers in their use of business travel products and services. The Business Travel Show Dubai is committed to looking at ways to reduce its carbon footprint by cutting emissions wherever possible and offsetting those emissions that remain unavoidable,"

says Sally Pugmire, Event Director.

"The Business Travel Show Dubai is delighted to be working with Carbon Capital Markets to build a greener future and we hope that our collaboration will raise awareness of this issue in the run up to and during the show," she continues.

Visitors to the Business Travel Show Dubai are also being encouraged to contribute to the show's green initiative and minimise the impact of climate change by offsetting their travel to the show whether it be a few miles by car or a long-haul flight.

The inaugural Business Travel Show Dubai will be held in Dubai on 29 and 30 October 2007 at the Madinat Jumeirah Arena, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline and Group, and President, Dubai Department of Civil Aviation.
