A personal belonging and art auction will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, on 18 October 2007 to help raise money for the 'Dubai Cares' campaign, the charity drive held during the Holy Month of Ramadan to help educate one million children in poor countries.

Held at Emirates Towers Terrace, the auction will contain collectible items from prominent UAE families including the royal family.

The auction is part of HH Sheikha Manal's role in 'Dubai Cares' launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

HH Sheikha Manal - who is donating her own painting to the auction - is championing the cause of girls and their plight to obtain access to education in poor countries and recently lead a delegation of Dubai women and women organizations to Yemen, to see first-hand the situation on the ground in terms of children's primary education.

Commenting on the upcoming auction, HH Sheikha Manal said: "The act of giving up a personal belonging for the cause of education is very symbolic - we are, essentially, detaching ourselves from the material for the sake of a cause that is human, universal and that goes beyond anything material. We hope the auction will raise the money we need to give these poor children the gift of education and knowledge, a gift that is both priceless and eternal."

'Dubai Cares' joins a list of international initiatives launched in Dubai that express Dubai's will to play an effective role contributing to achieving the world's mission to secure a better tomorrow for future generations.

The campaign is Dubai's contribution to a global drive to assist countries in achieving their U.N. Millennium Development Goals for providing Children's Primary Education to every child by 2015.
