  • PRESS RELEASE

"This year, consumers will benefit from triple-play protection from McAfee," said Patrick Hayati Regional Director, McAfee Middle East. "Not only have we added additional anti-threat technologies for the PC unavailable from competitors, but we have trumped the competition once again with the only safe search and surf technology integrated into our consumer security suites. With 4 out of 5 Web site visits starting with search, if consumers do not have safe search and surf technology for all of the "on ramps" to the Internet, they are not protected—and McAfee is the only one to offer it."

In the 2008 Consumer Software release, McAfee has enhanced a number of its unique technologies which warn consumers about phishers, hacker activity, and identity thieves:

• McAfee is providing stronger identity theft protection through enhanced browser-based anti-phishing protection to prevent consumers from visiting sites that exist solely to steal personal information.

• Improved McAfee SystemGuards watches the PC and warns about specific behaviours that may signal virus, spyware, or hacker activity. Now fewer alerts.

• Rootkit Protection adds new levels of detection and removal for rootkits and other malicious applications that hide from Windows and other anti-virus programs. From 2006 to 2007, the number of rootkits more than doubled.

In addition to the enhanced protections above, McAfee 2008 also includes a firewall Stealth Mode, which lets consumers hide their identities and presence on the Internet, making their PCs invisible to hackers. Stealth Mode was first integrated into the McAfee software in 2007.

McAfee Internet Security Suite includes all of the protections above with the exception of Link Checker, Protected Mode, and Easy Network.

McAfee VirusScan Plus is McAfee's entry level suite, featuring anti-virus, anti-spyware, a two-way firewall, anti-phishing, McAfee SystemGuards, Rootkit scanning, Script Scanner and Shredder.

All McAfee suites include PC health features to help consumers eliminate the clutter from their computer, and McAfee's unique security-as-a-service model.
