Oracle gives back to community on Global Volunteers Day
- Egypt: Monday, October 15 - 2007 at 15:47
- PRESS RELEASE
During Oracle's eighth annual Global Volunteers Day held in Cairo, more than 55 Oracle employees and their families took part in a special project for Health and Hope Oasis managed by the NGO - Friends of Children with Cancer.
Realizing that medication is not only enough for all cancer cases, the Health and Hope Oasis project is a wholistic approach aimed at serving children with cancer who could be cared for in a safe and sound environment, with their mothers and siblings. This vision became reality with the Health and Hope Oasis in Wadi Natrun where an operating farm was donated for this project. The farm provides some of the needed food such as fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, and chicken, to insure the sustainability of the project.
Oracle also joined efforts with the Egyptian Food Bank to help them pack dry food supplies to be distributed all year round to families in need. Oracle Volunteers spent a day packing dry food items in bags and storing them in the warehouses.
Oracle works actively to address community needs and improve the quality of life in the communities in which it does business. Preferring to solve problems, rather than manage their consequences, Oracle Corporation and its employees focus on bringing about positive change in key areas: education, environment, giving, enriching the community, and volunteerism.
"Global Volunteer Day is a time to encourage volunteerism, celebrate Oracle employees' year-round service and maximise the impact of Oracle's commitment to corporate citizenship," said Hussein El-Gueretly, Senior Director, Business Operations MEA and Country Manager- Oracle Egypt. "By participating in Global Volunteer Days, Oracle employees around the world benefit through team-building exercises and leadership development opportunities while making a difference in their local communities.
"Oracle's commitment to corporate citizenship would not be possible without the support, hard work and participation of its employees. The Global Volunteer Days began in 2000 as a one day event and has now expanded into a multi-week volunteer effort that celebrates the tremendous efforts and good work of our employees in the Middle East," added El-Gueretly.
Oracle Volunteers oversee the Global Volunteer Days and help create opportunities for Oracle employees and their families to actively address social needs and make a measurable, positive impact in the community. Oracle Volunteers relies on employee interest in community involvement to act as the driving force behind corporate volunteer projects.
