Dubai Cares schools campaign ends today

  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, October 18 - 2007 at 16:26
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Dubai Cares for Schools Campaign - the school fund raising campaign under Dubai Cares - ends today.

Initiated and championed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, the campaign engaged thousands of students, encouraging them to embrace the humanitarian aspects of the campaign, making them better citizens of the world.

A total of 208 schools engaged in over 150,000 students in the fund raising activities that included sale of school vouchers and other creative activities. Millions have already been raised with final numbers yet to come in.

Today marks the last day for the sale of vouchers and any other fund-raising activity by students in schools, colleges and educational institutions. There will be no sale of vouchers or other fundraising activities after today.

Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA said, "Tomorrow will be the final day for the Dubai Cares for Schools Voucher program. We would like to thank all the students, parents, administrators, and teachers who have contributed to the success of this campaign. They have proved that the love of giving is present in their hearts and souls."

He added: "What makes this program unique is that it has entered every household in Dubai, even those that do not have access to newspapers or TV. The students have been the messengers of Dubai Cares to each house, family, and street in Dubai. This campaign had proven that the fabric of Dubai's society is a successful example of co-living between cultures, ethnicities, and races. It has also proven that all the families in Dubai have the noble feeling of giving but need a catalyst to activate it."

The schools meanwhile will get ready to hand over their contributions to the officials from the National Bank of Dubai from Sunday, October 21, 2007.
