- PRESS RELEASE
Shell will play a prominent role in the World Energy & Chemicals Exhibition and Conference to be held in Kuwait this month.
"Shell is delighted to be an active participant in this important conference," said Mr. Ahmed Mouti, the new Chairman of Shell in Kuwait. "As one of the world's leading international oil companies, Shell is a committed partner to Kuwait and places great value on its long term relationships in this country.
"Through our business ventures with local Kuwaiti partners we are seeking to play a positive role in developing the private sector and in ensuring Kuwait's long-term economic prosperity."
Shell will present two keynote speakers at the conference. Dr. John Barry will be discussing unconventional approaches to solving the world's energy problems while Dr. Zara Khatib will explore the challenges and opportunities of oil recovery in the Middle East.
Basil Shaaban, one of the most successful young prospects on the Formula 3 Euro Series circuit, will be at the exhibition to raise awareness of Shell's road safety campaign.
Sponsored by Shell Companies in the Middle East, Beirut-born Shaaban is a committed to spreading the message of safe driving, especially among young men in this region who have the highest rate of traffic fatalities in the world.
"My position as a racing driver gives me a unique view of road safety," said Basil Shaaban. "It is highly motivating for young people when someone who drives to the limit on race circuits tells them how irresponsible it is to speed and drive aggressively on public roads."
Shell is backing Shaaban's bid to become the Arab world's first Formula One racing driver. Shell has a long-standing relationship with motor sport, especially in Formula One where it is the technical partner to Ferrari.
Motor sport enthusiasts are sure to flock to Shell's exhibition stand at the conference where Shell will have a Ferrari Formula One racing car on display in Kuwait for the first time.
"With our expert keynote speakers, our road safety message featuring Basil Shaaban and the attraction of a Formula One Ferrari, Shell Kuwait is looking forward to contributing to a successful event," Mr. Mouti said.
The World Energy & Chemicals Exhibition and Conference will be held at the International Fairgrounds in Mishref from the 22nd to the 25th of October.
