The Nissan Xterra is equipped with a 4.0 litre V6 engine (DOHC, 24 valves), mated to five-speed automatic transmission, producing 291 hp at 5,600 rpm and 41.7 kg-m torque at 4,000 rpm.

Xterra's highly capable 4WD system features a shift on the fly 4 Wheel Drive with 2 speed transfer case, which allows shifting between 2WD and 4H mode at speeds upto 100 kmph.
For severe off-road conditions, the system also features a 4LO with an impressive crawl ratio that includes dual speed off-roading situations providing a dynamic combination of technology for the serious off roader.
The Xterra's hard core design comes through even in the most difficult off roading situations with ground clearance of upto 9.5" and angle of approach of 33 degrees and 29 degrees angle of departure.
