Inter Milan, Sport Club Internacional (also known as Inter), and AFC Ajax are among the teams that have been confirmed to compete in the competition.

Football is one of the core sports for Dubai Sports City and executives are eager to provide full support for the pioneering event, which attracted enthusiastic crowds for the inaugural competition earlier this year.

Malcolm Thorpe, Marketing Director, Sports Business, Dubai Sports City, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Mohammed Bin Rashid International Football Championship and look forward to a stimulating competition."

"Dubai Sports City continues to seek out new ways in which we can contribute to the wider sporting culture of the region, and part of our strategy is to actively engage with major events like the Football Championship," he added.

Dubai Sports City is building a strong track record in supporting new soccer and sports events in the United Arab Emirates. It was joint promoter of the Dubai Football Challenge 2007, working with the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and IEP Sports and Leisure ("The World Series"), and the partnership with The World Series is to be continued through the creation of a series of national team football events.

Malcolm Thorpe explains: "We know from working with The World Series that they are a thoroughly professional outfit and that they are extremely well-connected in the football world. We have been keen to extend our relationship with them and plan to announce further details in due course."

Dubai Sports City is also a main sponsor for the Masters Football Dubai Cup, as well as other major non-football sporting events, including the Dubai Desert Classic.

Among the facilities currently under construction at Dubai Sports City is a 60,000 capacity multi-purpose outdoor stadium, which will host major football events and other sports when it is completed. Dubai Sports City will also be home to Manchester United Soccer Schools, Dubai.
