In his meeting with HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed, H.E. Dhahi Khalfan praised H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for his devotion to human causes and his emphasis on education as a cornerstone for human development.

"Residents of and companies in Dubai have a moral obligation to participate in noble causes such as 'Dubai Cares'. Our contribution to Dubai Cares comes in response to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed's appeal to the local community to support the campaign and reflects our ongoing commitment to support initiatives that enhance the UAE's reputation as a global player," said Khalfan.

Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan spoke of the campaign as "making good on the Islamic principle of extending help to needy people" - a principle, Khalfan pointed out, also espoused by Dubai Police.

Finally, Dubai Police General Commander commented on the campaign's impact on crime and in terms of public security. He said: "'Dubai Cares' will make a positive contribution to the security of poor communities, since higher education rates cause a demise in crime rates - education will help these communities overcome poverty, fight crime and, ultimately, spread peace and security."

'Dubai Cares' was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 19 September. The campaign aims to raise funds to provide primary education to a million needy children in a number of the world's poorest countries. Funds raised by the campaign will be utilized to build schools and offer health care and food for students.
