Ecological impact will be top of event-planning agenda within the next 5 years

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, October 24 - 2007 at 12:15

The events industry in the UAE is placing an increasing importance on the role of corporate social responsibility when it comes to the environment, according to a survey conducted by Dubai-based, MVM Events.

The international survey, compiled across Europe, the Middle East and Australia, showed that 87% of companies in Dubai will be considering CSR ecological issues more over the next five years, when organizing events.

However, just 10% of the region's companies currently have a CSR eco policy that is reflected in the types of events and the places where they are held, compared with 22% in Dubai and 31% in Sydney.

"Clearly when organising events in Dubai, ecological issues have not had a high priority to date, but this is set to change dramatically over the next few years," commented Kate Bowery, MVM Events Dubai.

"The results of the survey show that Dubai has made minimal environmental decisions when organizing events to date, but the amount of change over the next five years is staggering with 87% of respondents saying that they will be organizing events with eco issues in mind - and this can affect everything from venues through to air travel."

"The MVM Group is very conscious of this important topic and we have appointed a member of staff who can work with clients to best leverage their CSR policy and advice on what can be done and implemented to give the lowest environmental footprint," continued Bowery.

Compared with London and Sydney, the survey denotes that Dubai is considering the environment the least when organizing events, with 37% of Dubai based respondents stating that their CSR eco policy does not affect the type of events they organize at all, compared with 12% from London and 4% in Sydney. The statistics also show that 42% of companies surveyed in Dubai stated that the current ecological debate regarding corporate air travel did not affect their event plans, compared with 26% in Sydney.
