- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, October 25 - 2007 at 11:49
- PRESS RELEASE
Nakheel, one of the world's largest real estate developers, donated Dhs6m to the UAE charity Bait Al Khair Society, which seeks to raise funds for disadvantaged UAE nationals.
During the boat trip, Manal Shaheen Director of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services from Nakheel presented Mr. Mohamed Bakkar Bin Haidar, General Manager of the Bait Al Khair Society, with a cheque for Dhs6m after the success of the charity initiative which collected thousands of wishes from all over the world.
Nakheel's 'Ramadan Kareem Make a Wish' website drew over 38,000 wishes equaling a donation of almost Dhs400,000. Nakheel increased the overall donation by more than Dhs5.5m to make a total contribution of Dhs6m.
The excursion started at the Nakheel Sales Centre where the children were greeted by characters from Ibn Battuta Mall. The children were given disposable cameras to take their own pictures of the boat trip. Children posed for photos with the characters and crew during their journey out to sea.
The children, who ranged from 7 to 15 years old, were given a short briefing on The Palm Jumeirah story before being presented with a giant cheque to celebrate the funds donated by Nakheel from the Ramadan Kareem Make a Wish campaign.
Manal Shaheen, Director of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services, said: "We are delighted to be able to reach out to those less fortunate in the UAE through the work of the Bait Al Khair society. The 'Ramadan Kareem Make a Wish' initiative was a huge success and Nakheel would like to thank everyone who made this wish a reality for these children.
"As a key player in Dubai's transformation we remain focused on the importance of building communities. We believe that all of us have a role to play in creating better communities. Through this special initiative we have been able to make a significant contribution to an organization who is working to create a better society."
The Bait al Khair Society was established in 1989 and provides programs and funding for disadvantaged UAE nationals including the poor, widows, divorcées, patients, low-income nationals, families of prisoners, disabled nationals, nationals with special needs, orphans, and students. The Bait Al Khair Society works closely with public welfare societies and institutions in the UAE to carry out its charitable endeavors.
