DTK Computer reaffirms support to protection of IPR through Pan Arab IPR Media Awards
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, October 27 - 2007 at 11:36
- PRESS RELEASE
DTK Computer Middle East, a leading brand of personal computers, notebooks and servers, has underlined its commitment to the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) by extending its support to the Pan Arab IPR Media Awards, which were held on October 25, 2007 at the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel in Dubai.
The Pan Arab IPR Media Awards - now in its third successive year - was constituted by Business Software Alliance (BSA), a global organisation dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world, to recognise the role played by the media in combating piracy and ensuring the protection of intellectual property rights.
Nimer Al Attal, Managing Director, DTK Computer Middle East, said, "We are glad to extend our support to the IPR Media Awards as it gives us another opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to contributing to the creation of a digital economy that upholds the protection of intellectual property rights."
"The media play a pivotal role in curbing piracy and safeguarding IPR by creating and spreading much-needed awareness about the issue. It is evident that the creation of a healthy and vibrant software industry that fosters innovation and attracts foreign investment requires the concerted efforts of the government, public and private sectors, end users and more importantly the media. It is the media that can provide the impetus required for maximising the impact and reach of the awareness campaigns targeted at the resellers and end users of software, and this IPR Media award duly recognises the contribution of the regional media towards this cause. We congratulate all the winners of the award and we are certain that this recognition will stimulate them to play a greater role in safeguarding intellectual property rights," he added.
The winning journalists at the Pan Arab IPR Media Awards were presented prizes by H.E. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Alshihhi, the Undersecretary - Planning Sector, the UAE Minister of Economy, at a grand award ceremony. The efforts of H.E. Sheikha Lubna and her ministry have helped the UAE achieve the lowest rate of digital piracy in the region, coming in seventeenth overall worldwide.
