The community initiative was organised by the Sub Aqua Dive Centre, based at the Hilton Salalah Resort and attracted more than 150 men, women and children from the local area. The two day event was run in conjunction with thousands of other volunteer events in more than 100 countries around the world, who joined in the CleanUp campaign to tackle beach debris and conserve aquatic environments worldwide.

'BP is delighted to sponsor this worthwhile event and provide the hardworking volunteers with their t-shirts for the day. BP is committed to the highest environmental standards and participating in this initiative is a great way for BP to support the local community of which we are a part, contributing to a venture that reflects our own core values while protecting the beaches all of us enjoy,'

said Howard Johnson, Fuels Market Manager, BP Marine.

The SUB AQUA Salalah Beach Clean Up event is being held for the second year and in arrangement with Project AWARE Foundation which coordinates the underwater portion of International CleanUp Day in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy and The Marine Conservation Society, which organises the beach cleanups.

Wolfgang Boehringer of the Sub Aqua Dive Centre, Salalah, added 'We are grateful to BP and Hilton and all others for sponsoring this initiative and to the volunteers taking part. The waters around Salalah provide fine tropical Coral Sea diving. Humans are both the cause of and the solution to marine debris issues and our annual CleanUp is vital to the preservation of Oman's marine environment,' he continued.
