The exhibition was inaugurated October 25, at 6.30pm by His Excellency Mohammed Sdiri, the Tunisian Ambassador to the UAE, accompanied by Abdullah Al Owais, Director General of Department of Culture & Information, Marwan Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of the Qanat Al Qasba Development Authority, Hisham Al Madhloum, Head of the Directorate of Art, Samia Al Qamarti, General Manager of the National Library of Tunisia, and other dignitaries.
The six day exhibition at Marya Al Qanat (third floor) is on from 10am till 10pm daily. Ibn Khaldoun was a famous Arab Muslim polymath: a historian, historiographer, demographer, economist, philosopher, political theorist, sociologist and social scientist born in present-day Tunisia. He is considered the father of demography, cultural history, historiography, the philosophy of history, sociology and the social sciences, and is viewed as one of the forerunners of modern economics.
The exhibition displays scripts and old documents which have been preserved in the National Library of Tunisia as well as periodicals about Ibn Khaldoun and other ancient documents. A short documentary as well as 13 photographs of Ibn Khaldoun can be viewed by visitors to the exhibition.
'We at Qanat Al Qasba are pleased to organize this unique exhibition as part of the (Tunisian Cultural Days) in cooperation with the Department of Culture & Information in Sharjah and the Tunisian Embassy. The Ibn Khaldoun Exhibition is one of the most important events to be organized by Qanat Al Qasba, and we hope that the public takes the opportunity to view some of the rarest documents and pictures of the greatest Muslim intellectual. We extend our cordial invitation to everyone, including the general public and students of schools and universities who would no doubt enrich themselves with the experience of such an exhibition,' said Al Sarkal.
Ibn Khaldoun was born in 1332, and is known best for his work 'Al-Muqaddima' (translated as 'Introduction'), the most important Islamic history of the premodern world. This monumental work laid down the foundations of several fields of knowledge, including philosophy of history, sociology, ethnography, and economics. Ibn Khaldoun died in Cairo in 1406.
