Notes and media contacts

The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce estimates Brazilian exports to Arab countries could double in the next five years. Latin America offers a vast trade potential for countries in the Middle East. At present, Brazil, South America's largest economy, exports products worth only US$4 billion annually to the Middle East, while importing US$4.1 billion, mostly petroleum. Shipments of items including sugar, beef, and poultry products from Brazil to the Middle East have grown exponentially.

At present exports to the UAE from Chile alone are approximately US$90 million per year as of the latest figures of 2007, of which 40 per cent is in the food sector and 30 per cent is wood for construction purposes.

The conference gives the Arab countries the chance to explore ways to penetrate a largely untapped South American export market.
