Al Naboudah hailed the vision behind the campaign, which aims to provide education to a million children in poor countries around the world.

Al Naboudah said: 'Dubai Cares is another commendable initiative from Dubai that demonstrates to the world a new definition of community wide charity work. It has illustrated the true quality of Dubai multi-cultural society by pulling together efforts of UAE nationals and expatriates living in Dubai in support of a noble cause.

'Education is a long term investment that will help underprivileged children across the world take their rightful positions as positive contributors to their societies.'

The campaign, launched on 19 September, has surpassed all expectations in raising funds of over AED1 billion in less than a month. It was recently extended by two more weeks, to maintain the unprecedented fund raising momentum set by the community in Dubai, and to eventually benefit a larger number of children in the identified countries.

Dubai Cares campaign contributes to a global drive to help countries achieve their U.N. Millennium Development Goals of providing primary education to every child by 2015.
