Emirates arrives in Canada

Emirates Airline's inaugural Dubai-Toronto flight EK241 arrived in Toronto evening, marking Emirates' first destination in Canada, and the first ever non-stop service between Dubai and Toronto.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group (3rd right) is joined by Dr. Lloyd McCoomb, President and CEO, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, in an official cake cutting ceremony honouring Emirates' inaugural flight to Toronto. With them were: Her Excellency Sara Hradecky, Canadian Ambassador to the UAE (2nd left); and His Excellency Hassan M.I. Al Suwaidi, UAE Ambassador to Canada (2nd right); and, who were part of the VIP delegation travelling on Emirates' inaugural flight from Dubai.

Dignitaries onboard the inaugural flight included: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group; His Excellency Hassan M.I. Al Suwaidi, UAE Ambassador to Canada; Her Excellency Sara Hradecky, Canadian Ambassador to the UAE; and a delegation of senior Emirates executives comprising Ghaith al Ghaith, Executive Vice President Commercial Operations Worldwide; Mike Simon, Divisional Senior Vice President Corporate Communications; Ali Mubarak Al Soori, Divisional Senior Vice President Chairman's Office, Facilities, Projects Management and Procurement and Logistics (Non-Airline); and Peter Sedgley, Senior Vice President Cargo Commercial Operations.

The arriving dignitaries were welcomed by airport officials with a formal ceremony.

Emirates 29th October launched two new non-stop flights from Dubai - a three-times-a-week service to Toronto, and a six-a-week service to Ahmedabad, India - expanding its global route network to 97 cities in 61 countries.

Later today, Emirates will host a news conference in Toronto, and celebrate its launch of services with a gala dinner for its business partners in Canada.
