- PRESS RELEASE
Abu Dhabi International Airport has reported smooth implementation of the new measures restricting the amount of liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) that passengers can carry onboard as part of their hand-carry luggage.
Ahead of implementation, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) had launched an intensive orientation campaign that involved travel agents, carriers, and the public. Advertisements were placed in various newspapers and commercials on various radio stations in different languages to raise passengers' awareness of the new measures.
On the first day of implementation, passengers were greeted with LAGs roving staff who ensured that passengers understood and complied with the new measures.
Information panels were set up in various locations, such as the departure check-In hall and screening points, to inform and remind passengers of the new restrictions. Pamphlets on the new restrictions are available for passengers' ready reference and regular announcements are being made. Also, tables have been set up for passengers who may need to re-pack their belongings.
"Most of the passengers were aware of the new rules, and for the few who were not, the LAGs roving staff were there to give a hand," Operations Department said.
To ensure smooth processing of travel formalities, passengers have been advised to check-in all liquids, aerosols and gels items not required during their flight in their check-in luggage. Liquids, aerosols and gels required during the flight should be packed in accordance with the new restrictions, before passengers arrive at the airport.
The restrictions are:
(a)Liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) must be in containers with a capacity no greater than 100ml each. LAGs carried in containers larger than 100ml will not be accepted, even if the container is partially-filled;
(b)Containers must be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity not exceeding 1-litre. These containers must fit comfortably within the transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be completely closed;
(c)Each passenger is allowed to carry only one transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be presented separately for screening;
(d)Exemptions will be made for medications, baby food and special dietary items.
(e)Exemptions will also be made for retail liquid items bought at the airport or on board the aircraft and packed in sealed transparent security Tamper-Evident Bags (STEBs) by airport/airline staff. The receipt shall be clearly displayed in the STEB and the date of purchase shall coincide with the date of travel.
Passengers are encouraged to check in at least 60 minutes prior to the flight departure time (subject to airlines' requirements).
Passengers can continue to purchase liquids, aerosols and gels, such as liquor and perfumes, at Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 1A. Passengers who will be transiting or transferring at other airports will have their liquids, aerosols and gels purchases packed in sealed tamper-evident bags by the shops, with the receipt clearly displayed in the sealed bags. Passengers with queries on what purchases can be brought into their destination, or onto their connecting flights at another airport, may seek assistance from shop staff.
The new security measures have already been implemented at Terminal 2 since June 30, 2007.
