Zulekha Hospital to offer interventional cardiac services for infants and children

Zulekha Hospital recently created a milestone in the medical fraternity of UAE by organizing the first-ever Live Interventional Cardiology Convention and Workshop under the leadership Dr. Fayaz Shawl.

The world renowned Interventional Cardiologist and Director of Upcoming Shawl's Cardiovascular Institute and Research Centre (SCIRC) at Zulekha Hospital, Dubai, will now be extending interventional cardiac services for infants and children. Through this initiative Zulekha Hospital will support parents whose children are fighting a battle everyday.

Dr. James Thompson, a specialist Paediatric Interventional Cardiologist, from Inova Fairfax Hospital - the only Paediatric Hospital in Northern Virginia, US, will be available at Zulekha Hospital Dubai, on 4th and 5th November, 2007. The US based Dr. James Thompson brings his expertise and experience in treating children with cardiac birth defects like 'Hole in the Heart' using non-surgical means (Interventional). He has been involved in research investigating devices to close such holes in the heart without surgery and has personally performed over 500 device closures.

He is the Director of the Cath Lab and Chief of Division for Paediatric Cardiology at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Washington, US. Dr. Thompson is board certified in Paediatric & Paediatric Cardiology and is a member of the American Academy of Paediatrics and Fellow of the American College of Paediatric Cardiology.

The first day of Dr. Thompson's visit, on 4th Nov. 2007, will be dedicated to providing paediatric cardiac consultation and screening absolutely free to practice prevention before intervention. 'Due to higher costs of cardiology services, parents usually avoid getting their children screened early and thereby overlook complications that are minor now but may grow out to be critically unfortunate to the child's life in the future. We wish to remove this hurdle for such parents.' says Mr. Taher Shams, president of Zulekha Healthcare Group.
