RTA officials witness Dubai Metro project's train testing in Osaka

A team of senior officials from the Rail Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently visited Kinky Sharyo, the manufacturer of the Dubai Metro trains in Osaka to witness testing and monitor the progress of the train manufacturing.
Engineer Abdul Majid Al Khaja, CEO of the Rail Agency said, "The team was pleased with the progress on the manufacturing of the first two trains. The tests witnessed by the team included coupling which is a mechanism for connecting railway cars in a train, load shedding tests, train control monitoring system (TCMS), and functional tests. The trains were tested successfully on 300 meters of track at a speed of 15 kph for the first time."
"Several door functional tests were carried which included Door Closing Maximum Force, Inspection of Protection from Unintentional Use and Indication, Door System Repeat Operation Test, Door function while the train was running, Emergency Door Lever (EDL), Crew switch and Isolation, Obstacle detection and interior and exterior crew switch. After we finished the listed test we asked Kinky Sharyo to repeat some of the door test so we can confirm the test record," he added.
The current delivery method would be to transport the trains to Kobe Pot via land route and ship it to Dubai. Train #1 will be delivered to Mihara for testing in Nov'07 and return to Kinki Sharyo by early Jan'08 for final touch up and pre-shipment inspection. While Train #2 will be delivered to Nippon Sharyo for Climatic tests in Nov'07 and return to Kinki Sharyo by early Jan'08 for final touch up and pre-shipment inspection. The train's sets will start arriving in Dubai in March 2008 to commence revenue service in September 2009.
