US Consulate in Dubai awards grant to George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus

George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus English Language Program has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Consulate in Dubai to conduct a one month residential Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) Training Conference for practicing teachers in the region.

"This grant is an important step on the path of educational excellence. English is not only a means of communication, but a way of opening windows into the wider world. This is why English teaching practices need to keep up with the most up-to-date methodologies and techniques," said Kaye Dunn, director of the English Language Program at George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus.

An agreement was signed by George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus vice president Sharon Siverts and public affairs officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai Ramin Asgard. The grant has been awarded for a one month residential Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) Training Conference which will provide teachers the opportunity to develop their skills and achieve the highest standard of international qualifications. The conference will work closely with teachers to build strong theoretical background in teaching English as a second language coupled with successful teaching methodologies.

Asgard believes that the establishment of a grant to fund the TESOL Training Conference at George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus represents a commitment to providing opportunities for projects that create new economic opportunities and enhance access to quality education systems.

"We are pleased to support the TESOL Training Conference at the George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus because it is in line with our vision to promote peace, stability and international understanding in the region through education," Asgard concluded.

The program is expected to start with an initial group of eight students in early 2008 and with a hope to expand the program in the future.
