Qatar ditches Sainsbury bid

UK media sources are claiming that Qatar has decided to walk away from its $21.6bn bid to buy the J Sainsbury retail chain. Newspaper reports over the British weekend alluded to the fact that the Qatar Investment Authority was 'unlikely' to pay an extra $1bn to cement the deal as it would eat into its potential profit margins. Investment fund Delta Two has been handling the transaction.
