Dubai World walks away with four Seatrade awards

Dubai World, one of the world's largest holding companies, was honoured at the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards on Monday night, where three of its flagship companies won awards in different categories.

Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Executive Vice Chairman DP World and Group CEO Port and Free Zone World won the 'Outstanding Achievement Award', while Dubai World companies DP World, Jafza and Drydocks World won the 'Container Terminal Operator Award', 'Free Zone Authority Award' and 'Ship Repair/Shipyard Award' respectively from among a number of regional free zones and shipyards.

Chairman Dubai World Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said:

'Marine Terminal Operations, Ship Repairs and Free Zones, are an integral part of our business, and the Seatrade awards in these categories reinforce not only Dubai World's position as a leader in these fields, but also encourages us to continue to improve upon these areas which are vital to the economy of Dubai and the country.'

'Jamal's stewardship of Port and Free Zone World, and his essential role in Dubai World's global expansion are in themselves outstanding achievements. I am happy to have such an able and experienced professional overseeing the core of Dubai World's business. I am extremely happy the industry recognises this fact as well,' Mr. Bin Sulayem added.

Almost 60 companies and organisations had been short-listed for 24 award categories at the prestigious annual regional awards recognising maritime safety and the environment, ship and port operations and efficiency, security and financing.

Mr. Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah said:

'I am delighted that our companies' contribution to the maritime and logistics sector has been recognised through these prestigious awards. It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication to customer service that our people are focused on every day. '

The high level event was attended by around 800 senior executives of the region's maritime industry.

For 20 years, Seatrade has presented awards championing high standards and quality in shipping issues. The scheme is designed to celebrate and reward excellence and innovation across the region over the previous 12 months.

DP World was nominated for Seatrade's Technical Innovation Award; Port Authority Award and Container Terminal Operator Award, while Jafza and Drydocks World were nominated for the 'Free Zone Authority Award' and 'Ship Repair/Shipyard Award' categories respectively.

The Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards coincided with the conclusion of the Middle East Money & Ships Conference which took place from 4-5 November 2007 in Dubai.
