Qatar Islamic Bank announces platinum sponsorship of the Annual Arab Banking Conference

Qatar Islamic Bank will participate as platinum sponsor of the Annual Arab Banking Conference which will be held on 7-8 November 2007 in Doha, under the auspices of HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Salah Al Jaidah, CEO of QIB declared on this occasion that this sponsorship materializes the bank's role in supporting any event and action that may consolidate Islamic banking in financing developmental projects in the Arab countries and in Qatar in particular.
He pointed out QIB's establishment of the Arab Finance House (AFH), the Memorandum of Understanding for the incorporation of a bank in Sudan and the studies currently undergone to make investments in North African Arab countries, apart from the role of the bank in the execution of numerous financing transactions in the Arab world.
The conference would group together the Arab economic experts and bankers to study the latest developments in the region and discuss the development issues on the light of the globalization, especially in the fields of money transfers and investment, said Mr. Al Jaidah.
They would discuss also the horizons of utilization, by the Arab countries, of available financial resources within the Arab region, he added before mentioning the weak inter-Arab cross investments compared to the foreign ones rushing to the region.
The CEO of QIB made an invitation to the materialization of the Arab economic cooperation, notably in the banking sector, and activation of laws and regulations capable to catalyze financial establishments' performance, in order to ensure to banks , the appropriate environment which enables them to undergo feasible investments, (which in turn would enhance the inter-Arab economic links).
In a mention to the tremendous resources the Arab World is possessing and needed, Mr. Al Jaidah's opinion to enable banks to utilize them in successful and income-generating projects, Mr. Al Jaidah stated further that such laws and regulations should allow banks and Islamic banks in particular, to utilize their capitals within the Arab region instead of seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Mr. Al Jaidah praised the great success Qatar has realized over the past few years in hosting regional and international conferences in various domains: economic, banking, industrial, educational, social and political. He also valued such conferences in consolidating Qatar's international reputation as a leading economic country under the guidance of its Emir, HH. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and his Heir Apparent.
High-ranked government and banking sector representatives will be attending the conference along with renown economic and financial experts from the Arab World and the international community, ministers of Economy, Trade & Finance, a number of Central banks governors, leaders of financial, banking and economic establishments, presidents of economic and financial organizations/ unions, businessmen, investors, representatives of Insurance companies, Investment and Pension funds, Pay companies, Information-tech and communication companies and finally, representatives of international financial companies.
The conference would discuss a number of crucial topics including liberalization of commerce, latest developments on the international scene, international trade movement, works of the International Trade Organization, the international latest attitudes towards regional blocks, the Arab unified economic action, investment problems in the Arab World, requisites of proper governance in the Arab banks, role of the Arab financial sector in supporting trade and investment, role of Islamic banking in financing sustained development projects, particularly common investments, and other issues.
