Dubai International aims to be world's friendliest airport for special needs people

Dubai International is focusing on introducing new services and improving existing facilities to become the world's friendliest airport for people with special needs, Paul Griffiths, CEO Dubai Airports, said recently.

He made the comments during a meeting with a group of special needs individuals, who were invited to discuss issues pertaining to special needs services at the airport. He said that as part of its strategy to facilitate easy movement of people with different kinds of special needs, Dubai Airports has planned an internal awareness campaign and training courses for the front-line staff at Dubai International. New facilities such as lower check in counters will also be installed at the airport in due course, he said.

The meeting was organised by the Internal Audit Unit of Dubai Airports and was aimed at reviewing the efficiency of existing special needs facilities at Dubai International, including special handling offices in departure, arrival and concourse areas, and services for travellers with special needs. Khalid Al Halyan, Vice President, Internal Audit Unit - Dubai Airports, and Wafa Bin Suleiman, Head of the Department for Special Needs at the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs attended the meeting together with the CEO.

Apart from exchange of views and ideas on issues of travel and special needs, the invitees - representing a cross section of the UAE society also gave their valuable feedback after completing an audit on the facilities and services provided by DIA to travellers with special needs in the arrival, departure and concourse areas of the Terminal 1.
