Subtec is the installation contractor for the offshore section of the Atlantis development in the United Arab Emirates.

Atlantis comprises a wellhead platform that feeds a standalone pipeline extending 75km to the shore. Natural gas produced from this development will provide energy in the United Arab Emirates.

Prior to start-up and commissioning, BJ PPS provided pre-commissioning services, including flooding, dewatering, hydrotesting, air-drying and nitrogen purging to -20°C on the 75km x 14-inch pipeline, which extends from the Atlantis platform to the onshore first flange on the beach before the RAK gas terminal. The work was performed by engineers and technical personnel with specialised equipment based in Dubai.

"We are very pleased the pre-commissioning operation for Subtec on the Atlantis Project was carried out safely and efficiently," said Lindsay Link, general manager of BJ Process and Pipeline Services "The entire operation was completed in just 26 days. This is extremely impressive considering the 75km length of the pipeline. We look forward to working again on behalf Subtec in the future," he added.

A long-term relationship

The Atlantis pre-commissioning operation is not the first time BJ PPS has worked on behalf of Global Industries. During the past decade, BJ has supported Global Industries with a range of pipeline and process services on pipeline construction projects in the Middle East, China and India.
