Mohammed Bin Rashid to open largest Dubai Air Show
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, November 10 - 2007 at 15:00
- PRESS RELEASE
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, will tomorrow (November 11) officially open the 10th Dubai Airshow - the largest in the event's history.
And in a message to readers of a commemorative book published to mark the 10th edition of the show, Sheikh Mohammed underlined the strategic role aviation has in realising the ongoing development of Dubai and the Middle East.
"This sector has played a critical role in facilitating rapid growth across a wide trade and commercial spectrum," he said.
Sheikh Mohammed said Dubai is now reaping significant rewards from the evolution of the Dubai Airshow into a world-class event.
"In just ten editions the Dubai Airshow has achieved the status of being the world's third largest aerospace exhibition after Paris, which has 46 shows to its credit, and Farnborough, which next year celebrates its 45th event. Though our competitors are much older, the Dubai Airshow has matured rapidly in a relatively short time scale and its tremendous success mirrors the speed of development of the Middle East's aviation and defence infrastructure," he said.
His Highness went on to pledge continued government support for the show which will be staged for the last time this week at Airport Expo Dubai before its 2009 move to a brand-new site at Dubai World Central in Jebel Ali.
"We intend this site to set new international standards for the staging of air shows," said Sheikh Mohammed. "This fresh round of investment, which will assist even further growth, again underlines my personal commitment, and that of the Government of Dubai, to an event which is already world class and which will evolve as the benchmark internationally."
Dubai Airshow 2007 features 850 exhibitors from 50 countries, 11 national pavilions, spans more than 35,000 square metres and has over 140 aircraft on display.
The show is organised by Fairs & Exhibitions in conjunction with the Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces.
