Umniah announced the launch of Umax during a press conference held under the patronage of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
Umniah announced several WiMAX offers and services which will significantly improve internet services in Jordan at the best prices and value of money for a wide range of Jordanian home users and businesses.
The press conference was attended by His Excellency Minister of Information and Communication Technology Bassem Roussan, Umniah CEO Joseph Hanania, Head of Strategic Planning at the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance Fawzan Shukri, Samer Qarawi (HP), Intel's Taha Khalifeh, and Anders Rendahl Senior Vice President & General Manager EMEA
Airspan Networks Inc., as well as representatives of the media.
UMAX services very effectively replace the traditional cables or DSL to work with the wireless broadband technology. It transmits data from one computer to another using encoded radio waves and then to personal computers over long distances that could reach 15 kilometers with a speed that reaches 2 megabit/second. UMAX also allows users to make VoIP calls while also receiving and sending large multimedia files at exponential rates.
UMAX services in the first phase cover 30% of the capital Amman while future phases will cover all governorates.
H.E. Minister of Information and Communication Technology Bassem Roussan said the launch of this service reflects the level of maturity that the IT sector has reached in Jordan especially after it has been fully open which resulted in several high quality services that are available to all the strata of the society while also keeping up with the pace of the daily practical life.
Umniah CEO Joseph Hanania said, 'It gives me a great honor to announce the launch of UMAX in Jordan after we made all the preparations to roll a top-notch network that can offer the latest up-to-date services. UMAX will give users the best services at the highest value of money.'
'UMAX services will take internet services in Jordan to a higher level and contribute to the efforts of transforming Jordan into a high-tech hub and bridge the tech divide in response to the Royal directives of His Majesty King Abdullah,' Mr. Hanania added.
Mr. Hanania further explained that Umniah has inked several partnerships to augment the added value of UMAX services and help spread its excellent services. He said Umniah partnered with Intel, HP, Airspan, and the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance.
'I would also like during this occasion to thank everyone who has contributed to launching this service including our financing partners, strategic partners and employees,' Mr. Hanania noted.
Mr. Taha Khalifeh said Intel is providing full support to spreading the WiMAX technology that has proven to provide the most cost-effective connections. He emphasized that Intel's cooperation with Umniah will greatly contribute to raising internet penetration in the Kingdom.
Samer Qarawi, Marketing Director, Technology Group Middle East said that HP aims through its partnership with Umniah to offer the best information technology solutions and services in order to spread WiMAX from Umniah with the help of wireless and multimedia solutions from HP.
Fawzi Shukran, Head of Strategic Planning at the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance said the launch of UMAX is a major leap in the telecom industry in Jordan and will significantly contribute to the advancement of this sector. He said he was pleased with the partnership with Umniah in financing the purchasing of computers and utilizing UMAX services in spreading internet services around the Kingdom.
During the press conference, Umniah announced an initiative and a partnership with the Ministry of Education to provide several schools in the Kingdom with free UMAX services, an initiative aimed at supporting the education sector in line with Royal directives.
It is worth noting that the UMAX service is currently available in all Umniah selling points as well as some Umniah agents.
Umniah launches WiMAX under the UMAX trademark
Umniah, Jordan's latest mobile provider and a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain Group launched WiMAX services under its all-new trade mark UMAX, thus becoming the first operator to offer the long-awaited services that will change the telecom map in Jordan.
