Sheikh Khalifa Medical City celebrates in Diabetes Awareness Week

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Center holds 'Diabetes Treatment in the 21st Century symposium targeted to the public

On the occasion of the world wide celebrated 'World Diabetes Day', on 14 November 2007, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), managed by Cleveland Clinic, participates in a wide array of activities from 11 - 15 November 2007.

In line with the planned activities for the Diabetes Awareness Week, the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center will hold presentations and panel discussions about Diabetes titled under "Diabetes and its treatment in the 21st Century" on the 12th of November, 2007 at 8:00 pm in Ibin Majed Hall of the Cultural Foundation - Abu Dhabi.

The symposium's target audience is the general public and it will be chaired by Dr. Mahmoud Benbarka, Head of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center, and Dr. Omniyat Al Hajeri, Specialist Endocrinologist at SKMC.

Dr. Benbarka stated that "the symposium will highlight three important topics on Diabetes. Dr. Hoda Ezzeddin from SKMC will address the incidence rate and nature of the problem of Diabetes in the UAE.

Following to that, Dr. Ali Khalil, Consultant in SKMC Diabetes and Endocrinology Center will explain the latest treatments of diabetes in year 2007. At last but not least, Dr. Salem Beshyah will discuss living with diabetes."

"The second section of this public symposium will enclose a panel discussion by a number of medical professionals to answer the audience inquiries about diabetes. Among the participants in the panel discussion are Dr. Ali Khalil, Dr. Jamal Al Joeba, Dr. Salem Beshyah, Dr. Huda Ezzeddin, and Mrs. Suhad Marji from SKMC; and Dr. Ahmed Hassoun from Zayed Military Hospital, Dr. Khaled Al Jabbari from Al Mafraq Hospital and Dr. Asma Deeb from the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC)".

Dr. Benbarka added. "The invitation is directed to the Public from all ages and genders, and we highly encourage them to attend this gathering to help raise their awareness about healthy lifestyles and diabetes prevention. We would like to thank the Cultural Foundation for continuously supporting public health awareness programs. Their cooperation in organizing this public symposium has added value to our campaign".
