Mozart, a hint of Jazz and SAE

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, November 14 - 2007 at 12:33
  • PRESS RELEASE

Over the coming week, the students of SAE will have their hands full as they apply their special brand of skill and knowledge to produce one of the biggest and most unique music events to take place in the region.

The Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra will stage two concerts in Abu Dhabi and Dubai entitled 'Jazz meets Mozart', an ambitious project that will unite Jazz and the eternal music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Capturing the magic of the event, which is a collaboration between UAE's first and only philharmonic orchestra and the Australian Jazz Quartet, promises to be a challenge that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure.

The students of SAE Dubai, chosen from two streams of the audio and film departments, will record and film the Dubai event on the 28th of October before eventually converting it into a short DVD documentary produced by them.

"This is an amazing opportunity for the students to experience the way the industry works in a live situation" said Alexander Gehrig, Manager of SAE Institute.

"The fact that this particular concert is a combination of two genres of music makes producing it all the more intricate, and putting their skills to the test on such a big scale is a challenge they will relish and learn a lot from" he added.

The team will be recording the event with assistance from Thomsun Music, Mediacast, AVL Electronics and Apple M.E. using a Yamaha LS9 live console, Apogee Ensemble audio interfaces and Apple Mac Pro computers. All additional audio and film equipment will be provided by SAE to document this special event. The final product, which will be recorded, mixed and produced into a DVD format of broadcast quality, will be done entirely by the students.

The events will be staged on October 26th in Abu Dhabi and October 28th in Dubai.
