The 100 Nokia phones were offered as prizes to the public to encourage them to attend the five-day special athletic meet in Doha organised by the Qatar Sports Foundation for Special Needs. The championship, supported by Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid Committee, was held with great fanfare recently.
CGC chose to give 100 Nokia phones for the special event as such prizes work as incentives for people to come and cheer the athletes, while at the same time, the athletes get a sense of pride in having so many people come and watch them perform.
The hosting of such events helps in spreading awareness in the society about the needs of the people with special abilities and bring different sections of society closer to meet their needs. The support extended by CGC and other corporate bodies to the hosting of different games and sports in the country strengthens Qatar's bid to get the rights to host the 2016 Olympic Games in Doha.
