RJ renovates its 3 Airbus A310s at a JD10m cost

Royal Jordanian, in collaboration with Jordan Aircraft Maintenance Company (JorAMCo), is currently executing maintenance work and complete modernization of its three Airbus A310 aircraft operating on long- and medium-haul routes.

President/CEO Samer Majali said that this large investment in the fleet, at an overall cost of JD10m, aims at renewing different parts of the airplanes, their interiors, entertainment systems and engines.

He pointed out that this step is part of the modernization process the airline has been undergoing and which saw it take on board 10 newly manufactured Airbus A230s and A321s, and Embraer 195s in the last two years - seven of which joined the fleet during the last ten months. The company's plan involves the introduction of other 20 airliners, during the coming six years, to service regional, long- and medium-range networks. Twelve Boeing 787 Dreamliner, other Airbus and Embraer aircraft are slated to join the company.

Majali said that modernizing the Airbus A310 aircraft involves renovation of 201 seats, 18 of which on Crown Class, provision of modern audio and video systems, and the replacement of old screens with 12 new LCD screens. The aircraft have been repainted the new colors of the company and nine audio channels have been installed, using high quality CDs. Engines, control devices, fuel and hydraulic and pressure systems were tested, in addition to installing push back engines.

The Crown Class seats can be reclined 175º (flat-bed seats), giving maximum rest to passengers during their trip, as in the Airbus A340s that operate on the routes to North America and the Far East.

The CEO added that the company received the first of the three revamped aircraft and has started re-operating it on the middle- and long-haul routes. He also mentioned that RJ will operate Airbus A310 on the Amman-Hong Kong route, to be open on January 22, 2008.

JorAMCo, of whose shares RJ owns 20%, is one of the leading companies in the region in the field of aircraft maintenance. It holds several international licenses, the most significant being those of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Jordan Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA). The company carries out regular maintenance work on aircraft of major international, regional and local airlines.
