The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mr. Basem Al Rousan.

Umniah announced the launch of the U MAX services and the implementation of the first wireless broadband internet network during a press conference the same day. In doing so the company achieved a technological first in the kingdom by introducing a new generation of wireless internet services. The company advertised a variety of exclusive offers and services for this state of the art technology.

During the current first phase of the U MAX launch the technology will cover more than 30% of the capital and specific regions in Aqaba, including the largest density residential and commercial districts. During the coming few weeks the company plans to expand its U MAX coverage of districts within the cities of Irbid and Zarqa.

Mr. Haitham Fatayer, Engineering Director at Umniah, said that the company would continue its efforts in the coming final stages to increase the penetration of the service throughout the kingdom and city centres.

He said, 'We at Umniah work to expand the coverage of this promising service and we have put in place a number of ambitious plans to offer high quality U MAX solutions to everyone. In fulfillment of our priority to continue as the pioneers in the field of telecommunications we aim to develop the industry and its services in Jordan by launching new technologies and applications on a wide scale. This step aims to make Umniah a first class service provider in the wireless and mobile telecommunications fields'.

The wireless U MAX technology is unique in that it allows subscribers to escape fixed internet connections and utilize the service's applications to exchange high speed, large capacity information, data, and video.

The event was held at the Four Seasons hotel and attended by a large number of local businessmen, members of the press and Umniah employees and dealers.

The celebrations began with welcome speeches given by Mr. Joseph Hanania, CEO of Umniah; Mr. Ameen Kayyal of HP Middle East; and Mr. Taha Khalifa, Telco BDM and Intel WA connectivity Manager, EMEA Emerging Markets, Intel Corp. The event witnessed presentations and video displays to showcase and demonstrate U MAX technology and services, where the attendees were given the chance to get familiar with U MAX by trying it by themselves.

A spectacular show-specially designed for this important occasion- took place, performed by famous French group 'Les Farfadais' and accompanied by the National Music Conservatory. The talented Jordanian violinist, Wisam Tbaileh, also delighted the audience with his solo performance.
