ACT Limited appoints Bassam Hannoun as CEO for Jordan operations

Bahrain based ACT Limited, a subsidiary of Qtel, announced today the appointment of Dr. Bassam Hannoun as its Chief Executive Officer for ACT-Jordan (ACTJ).

ACTJ is currently in the phase to roll out the nationwide WiMAX network in Jordan.

"We have an exciting and innovative project ahead of us. The team in Amman is currently finalizing the set-up to deploy the WiMAX network across Jordan," said Dr. Hannoun.

WiMAX is the newest broadband wireless data technology that has gained popularity around the world with many international and regional telecom giants shifting its operation to adopt the new technology.

Dr. Hannoun has a wealth of experience in the telecom field with over 17 years of hands on experience in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

He began his rich career in the research and development field and worked closely with BBC, VOA, ITU, British Gas and other international organizations.

Dr. Hannoun then joined UK based Marconi as a Technical Consultant and was responsible for the rollout and optimization of the GSM networks in the Czech Republic, South Africa and other countries.

He then joined Lucent Technologies, at the European HQ in the UK, as a Senior Business Development Manager for the EMEA region and worked primarily on third generation mobile systems (UMTS) with major operators such as Telefonica, KPN, Hutchinson 3g and British Telecom.

Dr. Hannoun placed more focus and specialization on the Middle East market after joining an international British based consultancy company as Business Development Director for the Middle East and Africa. He was responsible for the sales and marketing of the full range of products and services portfolio across the region.

Prior to joining ACTJ, he was the Chief Sales Officer at Orange Jordan and was responsible for mobile, data and fixed telephony sales as well as other commercial activities on the group level.

Dr. Hannoun holds a PhD in radio network planning and two Masters Degrees in Business Administration/Strategic Marketing and another in Data Communications from the UK.

ACT Limited, based in the Kingdom of Bahrain, is a joint venture between Qatar Telecom (Qtel) Q.S.C. and A.A. Turki Corporation for Trading and Contracting of Saudi Arabia (ATCO).

The joint venture between Qtel and ATCO is a part of strategy to jointly develop and operate Broadband Wireless Access services, including WiMAX and other complementary services, in markets such as the Middle East, Asia and North Africa. They have also acquired a 75% stake in Burraq Telecom Limited of Pakistan.
