RTA holds excellence awareness workshop targeting new staff

Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) held an awareness workshop for new employees of the RTA to enlighten them on excellence concepts & standards, as envisaged in the Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program.

In his opening speech of the workshop, Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younis, CEO of RTA Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, welcomed the new employees and stressed the commitment of RTA leadership to provide all financial & human resources to ensure smooth & effective integration of the new employees in their occupational environment.

He also reiterated RTA commitment to pursue global excellence methodologies to materialize its vision of providing safe & smooth transport for all, in accordance with the standards set by the Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program; which are compatible with the accredited standards of The European Organization for Quality.

"The Government sector plays a key role in supporting the private sector. This is envisaged in drawing-up & overseeing policies & legislations, organization & monitoring process, providing infrastructure appropriate for creating excellence concepts, and developing & encouraging the private sector. All of these ingredients converge to serve excellence, thereby providing a rich source for the new employees aspiring to make headway in the path of innovation & excellence. Such process is governed by basic elements responsible for the success of development & modernization; which include support of senior management, participation of employees & customers, deep-rooted knowledge for promotion of excellence education, a clear vision & plan to steer and realign the path of the organization, assessment of progress made, and availability of methodologies & systems to ensure sustainability," said Abdul Mohsin.

He pointed out that this workshop aims at enlightening the new employees of the standards of Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program and their relevance to RTA operations & services. It also aims at enhancing sustainable culture of excellence at all administrative levels of the RTA, assigning top priority to participation of the RTA in the Dubai Program through directing employees towards this end, and disseminating awareness of excellence concepts. The workshop also aims at encouraging agencies to upgrade their performance, improving their services & practices, fostering competitive spirits & cooperation with others, and motivating them to achieve excellence in all fields.

"The anticipated results of this workshop could be summarized in enhancing the sense of belonging among the new employees, sharpening their motivational & empowerment feeling, demonstrating RTA's concern for their career development, and placing much emphasis on studying Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program in terms of standards & participation requirements. The workshop introduced the new employees to the global excellence perimeters, and the fast-moving experiments worldwide. They were also exposed to the key benefits of transfer and exchange of expertise between employees within the same agency, and with other agencies so as to provide them with a rich exposure of knowledge" added Abdul Mohsin.

Speaking about the anticipated role of the new employees within the RTA, Abdul Mohsin said: "We started with studying the provided training material in a good & effective manner, and the new employees were advised not to hesitate in asking for any additional support from Strategy & Corporate Performance Dep't. Then we embarked upon application of excellence standards and how to diffuse them within the work environment. Emphasis was made on the need for effective future participation in excellence panels & teams as well as supporting participation in Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program through identifying requirements & standards of excellence. Self-style and sustained education was also highlighted along with the need to keep abreast of all new developments.

"Following that we set about reviewing the itinerary; which included a brief account on Dubai Government Excellent Performance Program, in terms of evolution, categories, awards and bodies entitled to participate. We also reviewed the potentials of excellence through leadership, policy, strategy and human resources. We discussed the results of excellence drive including customer results, HR results, community results, and key performance results. Then we studied the major international awards in the field of excellence such as European Quality Award, & King Abdulla II Excellence Award, in addition to the standards & mechanisms contributing to excellence drive along with the findings concluded from these standards," said Abdul Mohsin in a concluding remark.
