- Saudi Arabia: Sunday, November 25 - 2007 at 11:14
Saudi Arabia issued a tender yesterday for the development of Jeddah 2, an eight million square metre industrial city that will house 400 manufacturing companies.
Manufacturing is seen as key to the kingdom's future economic growth. Al Rabiah said that Saudi Arabia was being 'more dynamic and more ambitious' in its plans for manufacturing. The government wanted to support regional developments and have more industrial cities in the future, he added.
Other industrial cities being developed include Sudair, covering 257 million sq m, which will be the most advanced industrial city in Saudi Arabia.
A concept master plan should be ready in six months and its development tendered to a project consortium within nine months.
Dammam 2, which covers 24 million sq m will have 457 factories once completed in two years time.
