Abu Dhabi students tee-off at Standard Chartered school of golf clinic
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, November 25 - 2007 at 13:00
- PRESS RELEASE
Ten students from the Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre (SCC) recently attended the first in a series of unique golf clinics at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club organised by Standard Chartered Bank.
The Centre, which looks after children suffering from both mental and physical disabilities, was the first of six schools and colleges to participate in the initiative. Students from each school will be given the opportunity to learn from a local golf professional at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, home to the Championship which runs from January 17th to 20th 2008.
"We view our partnership with the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship as an opportunity to promote the sport at grass-roots level ahead of the tournament," said Jeremy Parrish, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
"These school clinics were extremely well received last year by both students and their parents, and the level of skill on display was quite impressive. Abu Dhabi certainly has some fine young golfers and there is no doubt that exposure to local golf professionals - as well as the chance to meet and learn from the very best at the tournament - will positively encourage their continued development," he added.
A further five sessions are planned with other schools in Abu Dhabi in the coming weeks, with the two most promising golfers from each school winning the chance to be taught by one of the tournament's stars during the Championship. In addition to the Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre, other schools involved in the programme include Al Yasat Private School, American Community School and the British School-Al Khubairat.
