Second batch of DTCM employees graduate in Cambridge diploma

The graduation ceremony for the second batch of employees of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) for the widely-recognized Cambridge International Diploma in Travel and Tourism was held at the Grand Hyatt Dubai hotel recently.

The certificates were presented to 15 employees at the ceremony graced by the DTCM Executive Director Human Resources and Training Solutions, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, Ms. Chris Daw, Regional Manager, University of Cambridge International Examinations, and Dr. Maen Al Qatamin, President and Chairman of Knowledge Horizon.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Chris said: "Knowledge transfer and continuing education is vital for a professional workforce and we are delighted that Cambridge International Diplomas are growing in popularity throughout the UAE and the region, as they are throughout the world, through the work of Knowledge Horizon and its staff."

Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot said: "Dubai is keen to promote its image as a leading trade and tourism destination of the world. This course will go a long way in upgrading skills of tourism professionals."

Dr. Maen said: "At Knowledge Horizon, CIE students benefit significantly from the support of full-time Assessment Advisors. Assignment results have reached an all-time high with recent results reflecting a 97 percent pass rate. Knowledge Horizon prides itself in having the highest pass rates and number of merit and distinction assignments among the centres offering CIE Programmes."

The diploma was officially launched in March 2006 for the first time in the UAE by the DTCM in association with Knowledge Horizon. The diploma offers an opportunity to people from all nationalities to gain knowledge and practical skills about the fast-expanding tourism and travel industry. The DTCM had been selected as the Certified International Examination Centre for the diploma.

The diploma is offered in two categories -Standard and Advanced - spanning eight to ten months. All nationalities are eligible to apply for the course but with a prerequisite of a high school diploma and a good command over the English language.

The University of Cambridge, founded in 13th century, is today one of the top universities in the world, famous both for its teaching and research. The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world's largest provider of international school examinations for 14-19 year olds. CIE has more than 6,000 examination centers in over 150 countries.

The Cambridge International Diploma in Travel and Tourism develops knowledge and practical skills for people working in or preparing to work in the rapidly changing and expanding global travel and tourism industry. It will help develop students' knowledge of key elements of the tourism industry and create an opportunity for specialization through optional modules like marketing and promotion, ecotourism and business and executive travel.
