Etisalat Chairman also wished them success in advancing the telecommunication sector in Kuwait in a way that benefits Kuwait's economy, private and public sectors.
Mohammad Hassan Omran, Chairman of Etisalat said: 'Etisalat submitted a bid for a 26% stake in Kuwait's 3rd mobile license in line of our international strategy based on four pillars. They are in turn constructed from international best practices. The bid we offered for the 3rd license was based on analysis carried out on economical indicators and the growth opportunity in Kuwait's telecommunication sector. We believe it was a very appropriate bid. The technical and financial offer that was submitted to the judging panel considered all of the technology and investment aspects.'
Omran added: 'Etisalat has successfully entered 15 markets across Asia and Africa, and was able to offer added benefits to the telecommunication sector in each these markets. The number of Etisalat customers has now exceeded 32 million. This has helped us to attain the prestigious position that Etisalat has reached on regional and global league benchmarks.' Etisalat was presented the title 'Best Overall Operator in 2007' at the Telecoms World Middle East Awards earlier this month.
Mohammad Omran also extended his gratitude to Kuwait's regulators for being transparent throughout the biding process and wished them success in growing the telecommunication sector in Kuwait.
Etisalat successfully offers added benefits to all markets it has entered and was able to develop and grow their telecommunication sector. It considers itself a key partner in this sector. The company also plays a big role in the advancement of the capabilities of the communities it operators in including the preparation and training, and work opportunities.
Etisalat is has licenses to operate across fifteen countries: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sudan, Tanzania, Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Gabon, Togo, the Central African Republic, Cote D'Ivoire, Afghanistan, Egypt, the UAE and Nigeria. Etisalat today leads a consortium of investors which have placed in excess of Dhs30bn.

His Excellency Mohammad Hassan Omran, Chairman, Etisalat, congratulated Saudi Telecom Company (STC) for winning the bid for a 26% stake in Kuwait's 3rd mobile license.
