Amer Ahmed, Public Affairs and Communications Manager for the Middle East, said:
''Arwa' is committed to supporting events that are aligned with its objective of raising health and fitness awareness in the region. We are proud to be associated with an event that has set a record of sorts. It is commendable that in its two-year history, the relay has already raised over $1m for charitable causes. We are highly optimistic that this year will achieve yet another milestone.'
45 'Arwa' volunteers were present on ground to serve the needs of runners and cheering enthusiasts, and to ensure a safe and competitive event. 'Arwa' distributed 10,000 bottles of water to approximately 2,480 participants.
He added: 'Each year, Arwa supports a calendar of sporting events from across the region. Through our association, we provide a specific focus on dehydration and aim to educate the public on the essential role of pure drinking water to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
'Our bodies constitute two-thirds water. Vital organs such as the kidneys, brain and heart cannot function without the minimum level of water and minerals. 'Arwa' prevents dehydration by providing the required balance of minerals. The human body needs at least eight glasses of water per day. This intake must be increased during sickness and physical workouts, or when exposed to hot and dry climatic conditions.'
The Bahrain Marathon Relay 2007 concluded with a gala award ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Hotel to honour winners and congratulate participants for successfully completing the race.
In 2006, the marathon relay raised over US$ 84,000 in support of local charities in Bahrain.
