Dubai Maritime City, the world's first purpose-built maritime city and a member of the Dubai World Group of companies, has announced that the second phase of the mega project has been completely sold, in a unique initiative that offered leading regional developers a chance to invest in the world's largest maritime centre.

'We believe the key factor behind such rapid sales is the understanding that Dubai Maritime City is not only a real estate project; but rather, incorporates many attractive elements that will make it play a pivotal role in supporting the maritime industry of Dubai and the UAE in the near future. The excellent economic and legislative potential of the project, such as its free-zone benefits, responsive government support, a tax-free business environment and an effective port structure, will sustain its long-term viability and encourage similar successes throughout the entirety of its sales program,' said Khalid Meftah, Senior Manager - Property Operation Department, Dubai Maritime City.

Currently in its third phase of construction, work on the residential and commercial projects within the Maritime City will commence in the near future, with all developers required to secure green building certification. The key focus of the green building design will include energy conservation measures such as reduced use of non-renewable sources and waste pollutants; maximized opportunities for passive ventilation and cooling; enhanced indoor environmental air quality; use of solar energy; specification of appropriate material performances; thermally efficient glazing; use of energy-efficient mechanical systems; incorporation of recycling strategies; and efficient water consumption.

On completion, Dubai Maritime City will encompass the six districts of Harbour Offices, Harbour Residences, the Maritime Centre, an Academic Quarter, a Marina District, and the industrial quarter managed by Jadaf Dubai. The project will also incorporate the UAE's first National Maritime Museum, a range of iconic infrastructure, and the Gulf region's largest ship lift for ship repair and maintenance.
