The MBA (Aviation Management) is the university's flagship programme in the UAE.

College Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Ahmad Al Ali and Dr Pedro Pinto, Course Director for the programme, introduced the course to fifty new and prospective students at an induction session at the college, assisted by Martin Webster and Dr Alison Todman of the International Development Group of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Coventry University.

Mohammed Al Budoor, College Vice Chancellor, said: "The MBA (Aviation Management) programme at Emirates Aviation College is innovative in that it develops core business skills within a practical industrial context that will make its graduates invaluable to the aviation industry.

"The programme is a step forward in fulfilling the goal of the college - to become one of the leading educational and training institutes in aviation-related disciplines worldwide."

The first cohort of students is embarking on the first of eight taught modules this month and can expect to complete the programme, including the dissertation, in at least 18 months' time.

The college is currently taking applications for the next cohort, starting in March 2008.

The programme will be delivered jointly by Emirates Aviation College tutors, visiting lecturers from Coventry University and industry experts drawn from the Emirates Group.

It will give a unique opportunity for students to study core business subjects such as financial and marketing management, organisational behaviour and Human Resources Management (HRM) within the context of the complex and fast-developing aviation industry.

Specialist topics examine airport and airline operations, strategic management in aviation, and wider-ranging global issues facing the industry today.

The programme is structured into short teaching blocks to enable qualified staff working in the aviation industry to participate in the programme on a part-time basis.

The programme is quality assured under guidelines set down by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. On successful completion of the programme, students will receive a Coventry University degree MBA (Masters Degree) award, identical to that received by students studying in the UK.

As partners, Emirates Aviation College and Coventry University are involved from the start in the development of new degree programmes to ensure that graduates undertake studies that are relevant and useful to industry as well as being academically sound.

They are currently developing a portfolio of specialist MBA programmes of which the MBA (Aviation Management) is a part. These programmes focus on management in specific sectors of industry including logistics and supply chain management, construction and facilities management, and tourism and hospitality management.

About the Emirates Aviation College - Aerospace & Academic Studies

In the late 80s, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, envisioned Dubai as the aviation hub of the Middle East region. He directed a number of senior executives in the field to set about establishing a centre that would give young minds the skills and expertise to turn his vision into reality.

The college was opened in 1991 by the Department of Civil Aviation, offering a range of aviation-specific, vocational programmes for young people in the UAE and beyond. Since then, the curriculum has grown in line with the region's burgeoning aerospace industry, tourism industry and business in general.

Today, Dubai's aviation industry is flourishing and the college is firmly established as the source for skilled aviation professionals. Across the region you will find air traffic controllers, aircraft engineers, electronics engineers, flight dispatchers and tourism specialists who have graduated from the Emirates Aviation College - Aerospace & Academic Studies, and who continue to play significant roles in their fields within the aviation industry.
