  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, November 29 - 2007 at 12:31
  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates NBD Pearl Museum, which is part of Emirates NBD, the banking group resulting from the merger of Emirates Bank and National Bank of Dubai, recently received 60 international Gemologists, experts and pearl collectors.

The delegation visited Dubai as part of the first International Pearl Convention held recently in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The aim of the convention was to revive the pearl industry in the UAE.

The visitors were impressed with the wide collection of pearls on display at the museum and expressed interest in conducting studies on some of the pearls due to their unique features.

"We are dedicated to preserving the rich and colourful history of the Arabian pearl industry and hope that delegations such as this will serve as a reminder of the origins of the culture and Heritage of the people of the UAE and what life was like before the discovery of oil," said Suleiman Al Mazroui, General Manager, Corporate Communications and Community Services, Emirates NBD.

As part of its continuous efforts to support various initiatives that raise awareness about Pearling, Emirates NBD Pearl Museum was a part sponsor of the First International Pearl Convention.

Emirates NBD Pearl Museum houses some of the finest pearls of the Gulf. Exquisite pieces of perfectly round unblemished silver-white pearls of metallic lustre make up the collection.

The Emirates NBD Pearl Museum is unique in the region as it specialises in displaying various types of natural pearls collected from the Arabian sea and different parts of the world. It also plays a major cultural, educational and touristic role in the UAE as it continuously receives national, regional and international delegations curious to learn more about Pearling.

About the Emirates NBD Pearl Museum

The Emirates NBD Pearl Museum was inaugurated in 2003 and is dedicated to Sultan Ali Al Owais, the late Chairman of National Bank of Dubai, an Emirates NBD Company, and his wish to display this priceless collection of natural Gulf Pearls as a tribute to the citizens of the UAE and the Gulf at large. He donated his pearl collection to the people of the UAE under the custodianship of the National Bank of Dubai. Furthermore, to preserve this heritage the bank has designed and created a purpose-built museum in its headquarters where this collection is displayed.
