Commenting on the news, Dr. Aysha Al-Busmait, Director of Marketing & Corporate Communication Dep't of the RTA said, "RTA is uploading all information related to traffic diversions in its main website, detailing locations and time taken in operating diversions. It also shows the types of diversions, whether related to road, metro project or other related services. RTA is also keen to announce traffic diversions through various audio, visual and written media in the form of news stories, reports and ads, well in advance."

She added that RTA is undertaking several diversion projects in a number of locations within the emirate. This comes as part of a series of projects intended to improve & upgrade roads, under an integrated system of widening & renovating projects to keep with the pace of growth & development and cater for present & future requirements of roads & transport. It is also part and parcel of RTA's strategy to match the urban development in the emirate, meet the requirements of demographic growth & expansion, and provide sophisticated services at residential areas. All of this will contribute to achieving the vision of the RTA in providing "safe and smooth transport for all."

"When the RTA is about to embark on any traffic diversion, as part of constructing major projects such as bridges, tunnels or widening, improving and upgrading of roads, RTA places high emphasis on providing alternative & safe roads for road users and pedestrians at the area of the project & surrounding areas during the process of implementation, without impacting traffic lanes in the area of the project. Moreover, its ensures that all diversions & traffic improvements have well been attended to in a way securing easy and safe access to all traffic lanes, including provision of light signals & directional traffic signs meant to streamline movement and ensure seamless traffic flow."

She elaborated that all of these diversions and changes warrant reducing speed levels; a matter which leads to traffic congestions in certain spots. She noted that the number & volume of road & transport projects currently undertaken by the RTA, in addition to Dubai Metro project and projects of service-providing bodies (such as extending water & electricity lines, sewage, and telecommunications) result in sides effects such slow traffic flow and transit traffic bottlenecks.

Dr. Aysha stated that according to the Strategic Plan of the RTA, which aims at bringing a breakthrough in traffic flow, the momentum of implementing key road projects has to be maintained through the next years.

She called upon road users to cooperate with the RTA in achieving this strategic goal; which will be beneficial to all community categories and contribute to developing the efficiency and ability of the infrastructure to accommodate the projected traffic volumes and ensure smooth flow in future. She also called upon users of diversions to abide by the specified speed limits, follow the directional boards displayed at sites, and use alternative roads so as to ease traffic jam during the period of project construction.

In concluding her remarks Dr. Aysha hailed the active & constructive role of various mass media; which have been quite cooperative with the RTA. "They are playing a vital role in enlightening the public of these projects; and this helps road users in taking suitable routes to reach their destinations" she said.
